The French solidarity school
The only free school in Lyon that provides intensive and comprehensive training to asylum seekers
Since 2017, ERIS has been offering a French language school like no other.
It's a welcoming, supportive space open to asylum seekers, where learning French becomes a powerful tool for building the future.
At ERIS, language training is free, intensive, and far more than academic. Our program blends French classes with cultural discovery workshops, digital literacy, cycling, and personal development projects, because integration means more than mastering the language.
Each participant is surrounded by a dedicated team: a FLE (French as a Foreign Language) trainer who tracks individual progress, trained volunteers, and partners who all share the same mission to help learners grow in autonomy, confidence, and integration.
At ERIS, learning French means more than speaking the language.
It means learning to find one's place in life.

The teaching method at ERIS
1
Valorizing heterogeneity
Each learner is recognized for their uniqueness, their skills, and their potential to contribute to the group. Our approach is adapted to respect each learner's learning pace, with tailored exercises and differentiated instruction designed to support each person’s path to progress.
2
Development of autonomy and empowerment of learners
Learning is rooted in collaboration. Pair and small group work is encouraged to help each learner become a source of knowledge for others and to foster a spirit of cooperation. This approach creates more opportunities for speaking, ensures meaningful participation, and gives everyone the time and space to express themselves.
3
Enhancing the ability to act outside the classroom
Learning is always grounded in real-life situations. The concepts taught in class are immediately trasferred to everyday contexts, helping learners recognize their progress and grow in independence.
